Paul Ekon is a diamond investor with an impressive lineup of successful business ventures behind him. He is from the South African city of Johannesburg where he attended the prestigious boarding school at St. Stithians College. After completing his two-year military service, he turned his love of photography into a short professional career, which included working for a military publication and even moving to Los Angeles. Business History By the time Paul Ekon returned to South Africa he possessed new skills and interests that led him into the food and beverage and entertainment markets. He successfully developed those new areas of interest into several restaurants in the Johannesburg area, some of which are the Hot Tin Roof, Walnut Grove and Harpers. As one thing led to another, he migrated to the consumer products area of cosmetics and toiletries, during which time he sold popular products from such name brands as Yvonne Chaka Chaka, Chicco, Barbara Barnard, Hang Ten and Jordache. His next venture was into product manufacturing as he set up facilities in South Africa to produce door handles and door knobs. In 1995 Paul Ekon sold the door knobs and door handles factory and moved to London. He invested in MTI, a computer company that specializes in specialty banking software and served as its CEO until 1997. He went on to establish a venture capital firm, through which he invests in the New African Mining Company and others in the diamond industry. Philanthropy Paul Ekon, through his concern for the homeless children of South Africa, has helped to set up several locations that distribute food to orphans, one of them is Faithways Church. He is a personal friend of Jacob Zuma, whom he knows to be an avid supporter of South Africa’s underprivileged population. | |||||
